Impressive work is being done by a group of passionate volunteers, to recycle historic buildings for use by the local community in Georgetown, Edendale, an early mission station which dates back to the middle of the nineteenth century. Reliant on sponsored materials and donated finances, unemployed residents are able to earn while they learn restoration skills like lime and mud plastering. Visitors are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and share in this project.
As part of the development project in Pietermaritzburg, the Golden Horse Casino commissioned over R6 million in art. From hand painted domes and beautifully carved panels, to exquisite sculptures of horses - including the world's largest horse sculpture, a 14 metre Pegasus - the theme tells the story of the history of the horse. Take some time to look beyond the plush carpets and the jingling slot machines and admire this outstanding collection by artist Ingrid Baggeröhr and her team.
