Taking place at Msunduzi Tourism Hub on Tuesday, 01 September 2020, this event was opened by Msunduzi Municipality Mayor, Cllr Mzi Thebola
The tourism month (September) activation usually it takes the form of announcing the tourism month events and activities but owing to Covid19 pandemic the focus will be on reflection and implementation of Local Tourism Recovery Plan
It is important to acknowledge the role that the media played at a crucial time when we needed to communicate with the tourism sector trade and the public in general about the pandemic and business support mitigations.
We note that Covid19 pandemic is not a crisis that can go to waste in that it amplified a lot issues in particular serious lack of transformation in the sector.
Other issues highlighted by the pandemic were poor tourism investments levels (budgets) and poor intergovernmental co operations to support tourism (notwithstanding existence of inter governmental framework act of 2005)
Women In Tourism
This was held on the same day marking the transition between the Women Month (August) and Tourism Month (September)
The Women in Tourism session sought to highlight needs of women in tourism through speakers to share best practices and sources of support
2020 tourism month theme
The theme for this year (as unveiled by the minister yesterday, 31 August 2020) is TOURISM AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT- it fits very well with our Vulindlela Rural Tourism Experience initiative.
