Emanating from the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Tourism Coordinating Structures, Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism set up the Community Tourism Forums (CTFs). These are aligned to Ward Committees.
The role of communities in tourism in South Africa is strongly emphasized in a series of national policies and instruments that were established over the past two decades. For example, the 1996 White Paper on the Development and Promotion of Tourism Development in South Africa stressed that communities were expected to play a vital role in tourism development. This called on communities to identify potential tourism resources and attractions, to use them as a basis for exploring tourism development opportunities, and to seek partnership opportunities with the private sector, while supporting and promoting responsible tourism and sustainable development.
Tourism and Rural development is the theme for 2020.
A need to workshop Ward Committees and CTFs was identified to broaden tourism importance understanding, encourage support and achieve entrepreneurship development.
The first workshop took place on Friday, 11 September 2020 where at least two Msunduzi Municipality wards were represented.
More ward Committee / CTF workshops are planned. Councilors are encouraged to book their Ward Committee / CTFs by contacting 033 3451348/9 / firstname.lastname@example.org
