HERITAGE MONTH FREEDOM ROUTE TOUR
Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism hosted a heritage month celebration tour under the banner of Capital Sho’ left and KZN Freedom Route. The tour started in Pietermaritzburg and finished in Stanger via Durban.
The Freedom Route showcases the freedom struggle stalwarts such as Nelson Mandela, John Langalibalele Dube, Mahatma Gandhi , Alan Paton, Albert Luthuli, and others
The Route gives the tourist an amazing insight into the freedom struggles of the past and ensures a deep appreciation of all endeavours and perseverance of the struggle heroes contributions to the South Africa we have today.
The freedom nodes around Pietermaritzburg include the Pietermaritzburg Train Station & Mahatma Ganhdi, The Old Prison, Edendale and Mbali experiences, the Alan Paton Centre, Sobantu Township experience, Manaye Hall, Heroes Acre, and the Nelson Mandela Capture site near Howick and in Durban they include the KwaMuhle Museum, Cato Manor, the Inanda Heritage Route, which includes Mahatma Gandhi’s Phoenix Settlement and Dr John Dube’s Ohlange Institute, and the Luthuli Museum in Groutville, Stanger.
