The 2020 Capital Festive Drive Launch

The 2020 Capital Festive Drive was launched on Saturday, 21 November 2020 at The Soil Boutique Hotel, at Mpumuza area, Pietermaritzburg.

This was aimed at presenting a single calendar for events and  activities taking place in  Pietermaritzburg during Festive Season hosted by different events organizers and secondly to encourage responsible behavior particularly in the context of Covid19 pandemic.

The choice of the venue was influenced by this year’s tourism theme, which is ‘Tourism and Rural Development and sought to showcase this well established boutique hotel in the rural part of Msunduzi Municipality.

Event Programme included music, poetry, craft, traditional dance and appearance by Uzalo soapie cast.

“The 1996 White Paper on Tourism contends that prime tourism attractions are not located in the city centres but they are in rural areas, we are therefore excited to be here” said Dumisani Mhlongo- Director of Pietermaritzburg Tourism

Addressing the event Msunduzi Mayor, Mzimkhulu Thebolla said, “We will shortly be descending to the festive season, our city will be welcoming thousands of holiday makers as well as visitors and Msunduzi Municipality is tripling its efforts to ensure that 5 key priority areas are met namely clean city, safe city, improved traffic control, Covid -19 restriction compliance and improved infrastructure”.

He concluded by calling citizens to welcome all visitors into the city and be vigilant and report all illegal activities and unacceptable behaviour that compromises the safety and wellbeing of other human beings.
