This year’s ‘Tourism Theme is ‘Tourism for Inclusive Growth’
Wrapping the Tourism Month off and pursuing its resolve for rebuilding and transformation of the tourism sector, Tourism KZN Board and officials led by Chairman Sthembiso Madlala and Acting CEO Phindile Mankwankwa visited the Midlands and engaged with product owners and Midlands Community Tourism Organisations.Forum last week.
@ The Soil Boutique Hotel at KwaMpumuza in Pietermaritzburg is one of the black owned establishments that was visited and was described as one of the KZN hidden gem.
The Board and officials were also exposed to the Gidla Xpress (township lingo for sleeping over), a homestay programme aimed, not only at enabling access to the highly untransformed tourism sector, but also to cater for accommodation overflow and to diversify local tourism offerings.
“The visited establishments are part of the Vulindlela Rural Tourism Initiative which seeks to give meaning to the 2012 Rural Tourism Strategy” said Dumisani Mhlongo- Director of Pietermaritzburg Tourism and Convenor of Midlands Community Tourism Organisations Forum (MCTOF)
Sthembiso Madlala, Chairman of KZN Tourism Board said” Having undertaken this visit, we were convinced that indeed KZN is rising and has more to offer”.
